TRYING TIMES!

March 30, 2020

Hi Fellow Gardeners!!! We certainly are in trying times right now, but never fear, we ARE planting!!!! We have all our usual veggies, herbs, flowering annuals and perennials growing along nicely. Unfortunately, with this coronavirus thing going on, we are unable to open the doors at the moment, so we are offering CURB SERVICE (maybe parking lot service since we don't have a curb;)! Give us a call, 816-632-7317, and we will box your order and bring it to your car trunk, you can pay by credit card over the phone or cash at the "curb".

I DO want to assure you that we have PLENTY of veggie plants growing, I always sow at least two plantings of tomatoes and there are literally thousands of them that I have transplanted into four packs and single pots, along with peppers and eggplant. We have received several calls asking for tomatoes and peppers because folks are scared that there will be a run on them like the toilet paper fiasco. AGAIN, let me reassure you; we will NOT run out of tomato plants!!!!!

We are selling lots of seed potatoes, onion sets and plants, and all kinds of garden seed. Also, if you are wanting to start or add to your asparagus bed we have 2 year old crowns and now would be the perfect time to get them growing. We have Honeyoye and Jewel Junebearing strawberry plants as well as Seascape everbearing plants, they can also be planted at this time. The broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage plants should be ready about next week and you may want to try planting some kale or swiss chard for something different! Next week would have been our 40th Annual Open House, hard to believe that I've been here that long (was I just 5 or 6??)! Obviously there will be no open house at this time but when we can we will celebrate BIG TIME!!!!!

I will try and keep this updated to let you know what's going on here, and I pray that you all are staying safe and well and we hope to see you REAL SOON!!! THANKS SO MUCH FOR BEING SUCH GREAT CUSTOMERS!!!!!! Jan & Curtis

BRRR!!! WOW, what a difference a day makes!!!! It's almost 2pm and the high so far is 30 degrees!!!! Not much going on in the greenhouse today, nobody wants to get out and plant (go figure) in the sleety rain, so I am planting up some rustic planters! Will try and take some pictures to let you see what we're doing, we have lots of different containers for your porch or patio; some are old, antiquey, rusty pails and pots, some are old wooden crates, and other assorted goodies. We also have several beautiful glazed pots and some cool Mexican pottery for all kinds of decor!!! Our hanging baskets have been planted up for quite a while, they have been pinched back and bushing out to be gorgeous and full when the weather turns here in a few weeks!

It looks like we are going to have cloudy and rainy days ahead and the lows will be in the 40's next week (supposed to be 27 here tomorrow morning) so we will be taking the perennials outside to their new home in the perennial yard. We have wintered over several flowering bushes and they are ready to go outside also; there are some nice blooming azaleas, a few wisteria that are getting ready to bloom and a few other assorted bushes. Depending on what the world is doing this next few weeks we hope to bring in some other shrubs for Mothers Day, if it is possible. So much is up in the air with the virus that we are uncertain what each day will bring, so we have to try and stay on top of it all. MOST OF ALL, STAY VIGILANT, WASH YOUR HANDS, PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING, AND STAY HOME AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!!!! We ARE offering curbside service so you can stay in your car, then GET OUTSIDE AND PLANT!!!!! P.S. Stay WARM!!
